At a time when we need the highest quality leadership we’ve got the lowest quality leadership and a leadership of extremely dubious character, thoroughly untrustworthy, committing errors on an industrial scale and exhibiting no redeeming virtues at all.
I think the single biggest excoriating critique of the government is that in this matter as in so many others, Boris Johnson has behaved in a way that demonstrates his view that there is one rule for him and the government, and another rule for everybody else. Trust, a basic confidence in the integrity of those in charge is absolutely essential to the running of a democratic polity. That trust is now in free-fall and that is the most damning indictment of this administration and of the prime minister in particular.
